For a wow-factor day trip, head to the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids to see the new indoor-outdoor exhibit of large scale works by Dale Chihuly, the world's most famous glass artist.
The Chihuly exhibit runs through Sept 30.
The Sculpture gardens, designed for adults and children to enjoy are a 2 1/2 hour drive from Detroit. Admission is $12.00 adult. $9.00 for students with ID or people ages 65 or over; $6.00 for children5-13;$4.00 for ages 3-4 The gardens web site 888-957-1580
Travelers know Chihuly's work from his flowery glass ceiling in the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
