you guys sure like those flypresses,I would like to grab one myself(another one on the wish list).I'm finally getting back to work after a couple of weeks of helping a buddy move in and completly rearanging everything.I hooked up the forge yesterday and made a new mushroom stake,man am I gonna have some fun with that thing,the forge that is(the stake too of course).gif)

It Would make a great ashtray, but I quit years ago, so I'll have to use it for something else.

regarding your iron bowl..What does planishing do and mean? They didn't teach that in art school ...sorry I'm so dumb abt GREAT Blacksmithing and Iron working.

To planish is to do your final hammering and smooth out your previous work. It also work hardens the steel or copper so it becomes much harder. It still can move your material, so some times this is where I make final changes or shapes on Bowl or vessels.

here's my first bowl attempt.gif)
cut out a nice lill design[attachment=3360]
textured it cold[attachment=3361]
mashed on it the rest of the day till I ended up beating the center out of it[attachment=3362]
this should bring at least .06 cents a pound when it's done....it's just all part of the learning curve

Man, I can't wait. I'm working on my table this weekend. Then tooling. Then I'll be entering the bowl-a-thon too
