This demo was submitted to me by Grizz a few months ago. It was originally intended to be for the chat room demo's, but in the interest of time, I decided to post it here.
Sorry it took so long Grizz. It's an excellent demo.

Scroll forming demonstration
This demo will show the basics of scroll fabrication and forming.
We’ll forge a couple different end styles: Bolt end, fishtail and penny.
Then we’ll show how to complete the forming of a scroll.
We will also show a few tools used in the process of forging scrolls.
1) Cross peen hammer
2) Scroll starter
3) Small scroll jig
4) Medium scroll jig
5) Large scroll jig
6) Various scrolling pliers
We are using ½” sq bar, but flats, rounds, channels, and even tubing can be used.
Now let’s fire the forge and start with a fishtail end.
Fishtail Scroll
Heat about 2 12” of the end of the bar to red hot
Place on the far side of the anvil and strike with your hammer on an angle to taper end of bar.

Heat again then using a cross peen hammer widen the end of the scroll. Leave grooves to simulate the look of a “fish” tail.
[attachment=3073][attachment=3074][attachment=3075]
Take another heat and go to the scroll starter and bend the 1st 180 degrees over it.
[attachment=3076][attachment=3077][attachment=3078]
Then go to the small scroll jig and continue bending to desired size.
[attachment=3079][attachment=3080][attachment=3081][attachment=3082]
End of fishtail scroll.
Bolt End Scroll
Now we’ll forge a bolt end Scroll.
First again heat about 2 – 2 ½” of end of bar.
Put a notch about ¾” back from the end of the bar. Notch should be about 34 of the way through the bar.
[attachment=3083][attachment=3084]
Heat just the end of the bar and hang over the anvil and stat by working the corners to round them off. Mostly work the end of the bar the other corner will work itself on the anvil.
[attachment=3085][attachment=3086][attachment=3087][attachment=3088][attachment=3089]
Fold the bolt end over onto itself. Try to keep it as tight as possible.
[attachment=3090]
Once you have the end to look like a bolt, then we can begin forming the scroll on the scroll starter again.
[attachment=3091][attachment=3092]
After getting the first bend made reheat then go to the small scroll jig, bend as desired.
[attachment=3093][attachment=3094]
To make a larger scroll continue to heat and go to the medium scroll jig and keep on forming.
