Hi all. How about starting a thread about material specs like for example 5160 that is usually good for knife making, and usually leaf spring steel.
The thread could then be used as a reference for people looking for material for a specific job or purpose.

First question that would have to be answered is. Are the Numbers used to designate materials, and the names the same in all countries.
In the US its called cold rolled or mild steel, it was called BDMS in England Bright dipped mild steel. Also the colors on the ends of the bar stock can vary from dealer to dealer or company to company. So that is something that would have to be check out?Big Grin

Ok I thought we could keep it simple. Like a general description of material type and general use. Sounds like it could become complicated though. Bad idea!

Well like not being a lawyer, I'm no expert and I don't play one on TVHystericalHysterical. I just thought I throw out a couple of ideas and see if they stick. If it was that simple and the stuff was the same across this blue marble how many people wopuld be out of work.Big Grin
